It reminds me a little bit of my year in the UAE. I will have to do a visual spread like that also. Good job. Nutella was one of the most popular ingredients for our night howl cupcakes.

Nice photo’s Lynn, so many nods to Western culture. I am always struck by the clothing for women which cannot be worn out of the house. I still don’t get that.

Yes they wear these dresses to big fancy parties haha

Somehow because of your story I always feel as though Saudi is a backward country. These pictures are good reminder that it is far from that. Hope you will post at the Salon tomorrow.

Very interesting pictures Lynn, I recognize all of this. But what is ‘Romance’, displayed above ‘Vanilla’, an ice cream flavor? If so, what does it taste like? 🙂

When Fattima went back she saw this flavor and had to take a picture. I am not sure of the flavor!

A great selection of the many aspects of Saudi. It’s always good to see the camels but I was surprised by the many ‘western-style’ foods, especially the treats/chocolates. Lovely photos.

I’m fine, Lynn, but not too often on my blog this year. I’m finding it very hard to keep up with people’s posts when I pop back to do the odd post, too. Hopefully, I’ll be back to normal before too long. Hope all is well with you, too.

How is the book coming?

My novel is coming along slowly at the moment. I’ve been putting together a book of 100 flash fiction stories – some of them from challenges I’ve done on my blog, others I’ve written just for this book. They’re with my editor now, so I hope to get it on Amazon soon. Then I can work more on my novel and get it done a bit quicker! Thanks for asking, Lynn. Much appreciated.

So interesting. When I traveled in the Middle East I was so thrilled to see American food. Of course, it was expensive, but so worth it.

Loved your collage. The ring on the fingers- is it fully diamond. I have seen many Arab women wear these- seems to suit them well, can’t imagine one on my fingers though- as they are small and podgy.
Honestly the photos seem to show an outward reflection of a life that is hidden behind curtains. The outlook may be modern but often the thoughts and actions are a lot ancient.

The armchair traveler in me always enjoys the pictures you post of life in Saudi as well as life in the Pacific Northwest. Like Millie, I am amazed by the appearance of all the western foods, especially the western food chains. Do the chains serve any regional foods or is it all “venti green tea latte with soy?”

There are little shops that sell middle eastern food, but most fast food is american style.

It’s interesting to see the difference brands, and foods in other places. The tiny sized Nutella was fun. One could spoon it right out the little jar instead of a chocolate bar!
I was surprised to see so many of our fast food restaurants there! Although they are comforting to see when in foreign lands.

Yes it was comforting to see those places away from home. When we moved back we were surprised to see Nutella so popular here, over there it is a staple haha
