At our little Glam party we had appetizers and some sweets. We tried to make it a fun menu for the boys! One of the things we tried was a tree made with prepared dough and spinach. My two younger kids remarked that they would like these trees with Nutella and so Soos obliged and made little pastry filled trees. Both recipes are simple and use prepared dough.
My dear friend and sis Irene asked me for the recipe for the Spinach tree and so here are two recipes! xxx IreneDesign2011
These were thrown together as an experiment so measurements are estimated.
Ingredients
1 can of crescent roll dough (makes two trees)
Nutella- as much as you like
Cream cheese- enough for a light spread on each tree
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Remove dough from can, use half of the dough to form two equal shaped triangles and place them next to each other. Spread Nutella on one tree and cream cheese on the other. Place the cream cheese half on top of the nutella half. Use a tiny piece of dough to make a little trunk. Cut 6 slits into the side of dough to form tree branches. Twist each branch. Bake until golden brown and dough is fully cooked.
Spinach tree from our party
Use the same basic instructions for the Nutella trees(omitting nutella and cream cheese).
Ingredients
1 Refrigerated can of pizza crust dough
1/2 cup cream cheese
1 cup frozen spinach thawed enough to be able to mix in easily
Cheddar cheese to sprinkle on top- 1/4 cup
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
1/2 tsp. garlic salt
Mix cream cheese well, add spinach, salt and parmesan cheese.
Of course you can vary your ingredients and can add more or less. The tree we made was really full and difficult to handle while eating, so we cut the ingredients in half for this recipe. If you like it very full you can use more.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Follow the same basic instructions for making the tree out of dough but of course do not use the Nutella or cream cheese spread! This recipe will make one large tree. Divide the dough into two triangles and spread the spinach mixture onto one half, sprinkle with cheddar cheese. Place the second triangle on top and then follow the directions for cutting and twisting the dough into a tree shape. Brush the top with a mixture of butter and garlic salt if desired.
Remove tree from oven, it will be hot, cheesy and delicious, so be careful!
Yum!!! And they look so pretty!🎄
