Knee deep in jelly roll

Featured

This week I have been working on creating the perfect jelly roll! Each day the kids come home they do a quick check of the freezer, then the oven and finally the trash. I made a walnut jelly roll this week and was pleased with the final results. I will try to complete my testing this weekend.

But, the question still remains, “what do you do when knee deep in jelly roll?” I say…

“Keep on rolling!”

Family time

This past weekend my oldest daughter, See See, flew in to visit with us. My middle child announced he would also be popping over.  The kids and I drove to my hometown to see Mom and Dad and to meet up with all of my kids. We had quite the weekend only missing one child and daughter-in-law. As usual Osama invited everyone over for a delicious meal on Saturday and Gigi and Papa were able to make it out to the house to join in. img_2560

I met with a dear friend who I have known since elementary school and catching up was so exciting. She picked up several books for herself and other friends who requested them. She was very kind and also encouraged me to get my life story published.

The next day Mom hosted brunch and the girls helped her out. All of the kids showed up and of course it was chaotic and full of interesting moments! Ben made the mistake of taking a rest on the floor!

The little ones had fun with aunties and uncles

It was soon time for some to depart and last hugs were exchanged

An old friend stopped by for her signed copy of the book

And then we headed back to the beautiful Palouse!img_2634Finally, a selfie of me and my girl

Babysitting, birthdays and family

This past weekend was spent traveling to Spokane, celebrating my youngest daughter’s birthday and babysitting. Osama and Jacki took a little trip that had been planned months before and then forgotten. With their busy life I can see where it would easily be brushed aside! Foof decided she would babysit and I agreed to help her for part of the time. My younger children went with their oldest sister out shopping, to dinner for the birthday girl and in the end they stayed in a comfy hotel. Meanwhile we did crafts, made a fort and watched the usual movies.

Later that night Ben arrived to help and I retired to my room where the boys both tucked me in and Aiden showed me his Halloween costume.

The next morning the kids came from the hotel, bringing coffee and some breakfast sweets. We decided to leave soon after so that the kids could get home at nap time. We drove in to see Great Grama and Grampa who had purchased a cake for the birthday girl. img_0792Both of my parents and my sister, were excited that the kids made a surprise visit.

Gifts were opened and then cake was served, all of which the kids enjoyed taking part in.

We discovered that Alayna does like carrot cake and insists on feeding herself! She has also become a strong little girl even at this age. Watching her deal with her brothers gives me insight into my own daughters. None of them will let their brothers, from the oldest to the youngest, get away with anything!

I wondered where this sweet little baby would fit in among identical twins, but it is easy to see she truly is the boss!

I hope you had a fun and relaxing weekend as well.  Here’s to a great week ahead!

Middle

We had a fairly quiet weekend with the exception of a visit from my middle child!  He arrived while we were out running errands and typical of this particular member of our unit, he found the photo wall and our props and sent us a picture of his version of the girls’ pose and also let us know he was home!

Of course the usual noise from games, cards and movies could be heard from downstairs. We also spent time testing more of the bridal shower recipes. A solid timeline has taken shape as well as the final menu! Jobs were assigned to each member of our team and arrangement of tables, photo wall and various other decorated locations were discussed.

The shower will take place at Fattima and Ben’s home and so a mock up of these plans has been made. Soos and Deeja were surprised to see the old Lynn, arranging, planning and making sure every detail was perfect! Below are just a few of the things we have tried and the second time around we have new plans and ideas for perfecting everything.

The kids had fun making Chinese cotton candy which didn’t quite turn out but was still a fun project.

I am on my second course of antibiotics to get rid of strep throat but am finally feeling better. Today will be spent looking over the first chapters my daughter has edited for my book!IMG_8539

Sunday

Babysitting is hard work and you have to catch some shut eye whenever and wherever you can!

We had a busy week watching the kids! When we got home I had a pounding headache and the next day sick all over and a sore throat! I went to quick care where they did a swab and it was positive for strep. As a child I had strep often but have not had it for maybe 40 years. Wow that makes me sound ancient!

I am slowly getting around to visiting blogs but excuse me if I am not around much for the next few days!

Here are highlights from our week and happy Sunday!
